Does your work offer paternity leave?

My question is for all you working mother's (or if you know about your SO's work policy on this) does your company offer paternity leave? If so, how long? Also, do you think companies should offer paternity leave?

My company offers paternity leave, but not as many days as maternity leave. I got 12 weeks (two paid, which I was very thankful for.) I believe paternity leave is about 6 weeks at my company if I'm not mistake. My DH got eight weeks, none paid. I wholeheartedly believe all companies should offer paternity leave. I also believe that it should be just as long as maternity leave. I've never met somebody who disagrees with fathers taking paternity leave, but hey, everyone has their own opinions. Curious as to yours.

In Quebec. Six months can be taken by the mom or dad. Since I don't work , my husband took the six months off.

Under FMLA its 12 weeks for both men & woman. So your company technocly is doing things illegally

Our companies are both exempt from FMLA, we both work for private companies with under 50 employees. I believe that means we are exempt from it, correct?

Under fmla they do but it doesn't have to be paid. You use your vacation time or don't get paid. I've never seen any guys take it at my job. I only took my 8 weeks medical, then came back with my second. With my third I took all 12 weeks but didn't get paid for 4

In Ontario either parent can take parental leave. It is 35 weeks. A woman can take an additionall 17 weeks pregnancy leave (before, after giving birth or combination of both).

My husband took three weeks off when our son was born. Not sure what he will do this time or what his companies policy is.

By - the gov't pays you at 55% of your income - there is a cap though.

My work tops up the first 8 weeks to 100%.

That's part of the reason I wish I lived in Canda...your country has got their stuff together lol.

That is something I'd have to look into but I believe they have to give you time off if you're full time and been there a year.
