how long did the whole home buying process take you?

we just signed a 1 year lease on our apartment with the plans on this being the last year and to be in a house by the time our lease runs out next year. but was wondering, when should we start the whole process of getting approval and looking for houses. we want to time it just right so we aren't paying on 2 places or out of apt before we find home.

My friends took 7 months. She built her house though. It was supposed to be ready in 4 though.

Another friend took only 2 months. She bought an older home.

Another friend built her home and had it in 4 months.

My dh bought our house before we even started dating. But he said it took him a year to find this place. He got approval for a home loan before he started looking so he knew what his price range was. Once he found this house and put an offer in for it, it only took 2 or 3 months to close.

It really depends on the mortgage company & type of loan & all. On a conventional mortgage on an existing home you should be good with 60 days.

We built, started process end of January and closed end of June.  Be sure to get preapproved before you start looking!

Get preapproved as your first step. You can do that now.
Then research the desired neighborhoods for schools, HOA's, etc.

From pre-approval to move in took us three months.

ummm bout a month...I mean, firs twe went to the bank to find out what we could get, that took an hour...then we went house hunting...then we made an offer, then we went to the bank to collect, then we took the check to the house people and did an official signing...and it was ours...defintily no more than a month all together.
