I'm going through a divorce. And I have guy friend of 16 years. He's admitted he has a crush on me. The problem is he dated my friend over 10 years ago. I have a rule never to date my friends exes. But he and I text each other. He said he wouldn't date me till I been divorce a year. Should I break my rule or stick with it. I have always had a crush on him. And he admitted he has too.

How seriously did they date? How close are you and your friend? How do you think she would feel about it?

If you're not close and it's been 10 years, go for it.

Honestly it depends on the friend.

I have a friend that I know would flip if I dated her ex, even if it was a middle school ex and we were in our 30's.

Well I should say former friend. She was a bit too high maintenance for me, so we only speak about once a year.

But I have other friends who wouldn't care if it was a recent ex.

What matters is the friend, the situation, and the value the relationship with the friend has to you.

Stick to your rule. That would be weird anyway.
