How many inches before schools have a snow day.

We are in nyc and are getting hit with the winterstorm that seeems to be getting everyone.  We seem to not be getting hit as hard as other areas and according to our weather reports  we should see about an inch this afternoon and then another 4-6 tonight.   We have a brand new mayor so not really sure what he will do but our schools don't usually close down for less than 8 inches.  But a couple of years ago we were  hit with such a storm that shut down the city for days. When nyc shuts down its a problem. it was during winter break so the schools were not affected but we were caught off guard and they've been much more vigilant sicne then.  2 out of my 3 kids are praying for a snow day tomorrow.

Anyway  how much snow would it take to shut down schools in your area?

(btw forgive typo's this keboard does not like me)

I don't think it's the inches as much as when it falls and how long it's going to last.

Inches??
How about centimeters? Lol...yes, I live in Georgia so if there is even a forecaster talking about the possibility of flurries the entire state shuts down.

Ours isn't really about how many inches but how it will effect transportation.

no set amount, it depends on road conditions. 5 inches of powdery snow can be easier to drive in than 2 inches of moisture heavy snow

It's different every time. If they call a state of emergency tonight they ave to shut the schools down.

My kids are in school today but many neighboring towns called it off.

I have yet to see snow here... our schools have delayed over ice, so I assume snow would cause a shut down if it were to stick to the ground... it wouldn't need to be inches

Flurries honestly but we are in the deep south and not equipped to handle it.
