EVERY HOMESCHOOLING MOTHER HEARS IT..

Well if your child went to PUBLIC SCHOOL THEY'D BE SOCIALIZED... REALLY?

Classroom Management Poster

The Above is a BEHAVIOR EXPECTATION CHART from a Local Public School teacher!

And I totally understand why she has it.. It helps her with managing her class.. No bashing to her for using it..

However I am pointing out that they expect the kids to sit with hands in their laps no noise of any kind.. in their space not even LOOKING AT OTHER KIDS!

So HOW MUCH SOCIALIZATION HAPPENS IN PUBLIC SCHOOLS?

Maybe on the bus..

Maybe in Lunch...

But NOT IN THE HALLS AS THEY ARE TO WALK SINGLE FILE FROM CLASS TO CLASS QUIETLY..

NOT IN "SPECIAL CLASSES" EX Art or Music as they are expected to behave in that class same as in the other classes..working on their assigned tasks..

SO WHERE IS ALL THIS SOCIALIZATION HAPPENING?!

**This isn't a post where I am bashing Public schools.. This is a post where I am VENTING. about how people assume that kids in public school are more socialized ... Not always is this the case.. And not to the degree people assume! Also when I posted this.. it was NEVER MY INTENT To suggest people who don't homeschool don't love their kids.. nor that kids in PS are uneducated.. So none of those are issues here!**

Some schools require silence during lunch too xD mind you kids pass notes, and get around the rules.

Just because they ask doesn't mean it happens. Plus there are lots of group projects.

Many schools have quiet lunch time.

Quoting Lorelai_Nicole: Recess. Lunch. PE. There is plenty of time to socialize in school.

Well, socialization might be happening in public school, but not necessarily socialising.

I am not always thrilled with the socialization that goes on in some public schools.  Indeed, i think it falls into the more harm than good arena.

OTOH, unless you have a strong support network and are able to get out and about regularly, it can be hard to meet the socialising needs of your kids while HSing.

Signed, an anon who has done both HSing and PSing (overall, I think HS for the win, particularly in the early grades,  but to each their own)

I've never heard of a normal public school like the one described in the op. That would be awful.
