Both dh and I work fulltime. We have paid off all our debts, we have no house payment, rent, or car payments. we make okay money. The problem is our house is so expensive to heat. Idk why. its completely newly remodeled so theres no air leaks, new furnace, all new electrical. Its not big. we have a main floor, upstairs, and partially finished basement. three bedrooms and two bathrooms. we have propane heat but the electric runs the furnace. Igot laid off three weeks ago and start a new job on monday for $15/hr. Dh makes $15/hr and I was making $11/hr. I just dropped $800 to fill our propane tank less than 2 months ago and our electrix is running around $650/month. Now we have electric for $650 due on the 14th and probably wont be able to make the payment plus our propane is under 40% and its supposed to be 50 below on Monday so I don't know how long the propane will last. I don't know what to do. Idk when I will be paid my first check and dh can't cover all this on his own because we have other bills to pay. It just sucks right now because of my three weeks of not being employed. The electric company wont work with me to make a late payment, propane company wont give us more propane without payment up front and they fill a minimum of $500. i tried getting state help just for the month and we didn't qualify, tried red cross and they couldn't help, tried the salvation army and they couldn't help. Im at a loss. Idk what to do. I wish they would just give me an extension until I get my first paycheck. I don't know what other places to turn to. Ican't come up with $1150 until after my first check which im assuming will be 2-3 weeks after I start my job.

*I JUST WANT TO MAKE IT CLEAR I AM NOT ASKING FOR HELP FROM ANYONE HERE JUST LOOKING FOR SUGGESTIONS*

Eta: A FAMILY MEMBER GAVE US $500 TO PUT TOWARDS OUR ELECTRIC BILL. THANK GOD. THEY SAID THEY DON'T WANT PAID BACK BUT IM STILL GOING TO. I AM SO THANKFUL FOR THIS.

AND THANK YOU EVERYONE FOR ALL OF YOUR SUGGESTIONS! WE'VE BEEN TRYING A LOT OF THEM AND THEY ARE WORKING GREAT!

I know you say that there is no leaks and everything construction wise should be fine; but there has to be something wrong.

i suggest calling a heating and air specialist. They can check your house to see what's up,

Dress in layers and use lots of blankets, have everyone stay in one room with the door always shut. Everyone sleep in the same room until you guys can get it worked out.

I can sympathize. I live where it is going to be that cold. Brrrr! I am not sure where you live but speak with the propane company and see if they would do a post dated check.

I know!!! I don't know. Our h vac was done by a certified person. We had the propane co, electric co, a contractor, a 2nd electrician, and 2nd h vac person come out to check that everything was okay and none had an explanation for why it is so high.

Legally your employer can't hold your money for more than 15 days. Depending upon their pay period you'll either get a check at the end of your first or end of your second week.
