Do I Take Them To The Funeral?

My ex-husband died yesterday. He and I split three years ago. It was a bad divorce - he was abusive and there was a lot of problems.

The kids live with me, he lives in a different state. They love him, even though he hasn't really been there for them.

Should I take them to the funeral? I want them to be able to say goodbye, but I know my presence there will upset people. I won't let my kids go alone or with my ex's parents or girlfriend. They have no relationship with my kids. I don't want to cause issues at the funeral with my kids though.

What do I do?

I would take them. They are what is important, the others can deal with it.

you need to take them. Its not about the poeple that are there...its about your kids being able to say goodbye.

Yes, it is their father. They should be there.

I would take them. All problems aside, at the end of the day, he was there father and no matter how awful he was, if they want to be there and want to say goodbye, they should have every right to do so.

They are young, 7 and under. So they don't fully understand saying goodbye.

I want to take them. I feel it's wrong not to, but my ex's family and friends are very very confrontational and trashy, so there would be things said to me in front of my kids.

If they want to go I'd take them. If it upsets people then that's on them. You'll be there for your kids, not to cause drama.
