waitresses usually make ALOT more money per hour than elementary school teachers? Like depending on the night (and their customers) they could get at least 3-4 times as much as a teacher makes per hour.

No. That's why I dropped out of college after three yrs toward teaching. I now make more money off of a three week career class and one state test than most teachers can make. Now I'm paying off a worthless three yes of education.

What do you mean fair? It's not like you can change how much a server makes... They're already only paid $2.14 per hour around here. People will always tip however much they want.

I do think teachers should be paid more, but I don't know why you're comparing it to serving.

How can you compare these two occupations?

No. Being a waitress is a shittier job with much less respect. If I told you I was a waitress, what would you assume about me? Now, I just told you I'm a schoolteacher, what do you think?

Regardless of pay, I'd much rather be a teacher than a waitress. I'm going to school for a long time so I can be doing what I love, even though it won't pay much more than the day job I'm currently working.

I also don't think it's fair that doctors make more than nurses. Or that everyone makes more than social workers.

Do you have a way to fix the problem?

No it doesn't bother me.. MIL makes a lot as an elementary teacher, but she's been teaching forever, and has a specialist degree.

Fair how?

Teachers start out making less than some servers, but they retire with a higher salary and better retirement and normally the benefits are better. Work/life balance is better.

My sister has a bachelors degree in nutrition and has never used it. She waitressesed at a fine dining restaraunt and was eventually promoted to manager of the place while she was in college.

Now she is the bar manager and wine specialist at another fine dining restaraunt and also waitresses there. She makes about $60,000/ year and because of her management status..she does get benefits such as health insurance, 401k and paid vacations. She still has a hectic schedule around holidays though.

The dining and hospitality field is her niche, she's so good at it and she's so happy there. Not everyone is able to make it far enough in the restaurant business to make a decent living doing it, but some people can. She works hard and makes a decent salary for it. So yes..I think it's fair.
