selective mutism... anyone heard of this?

my 2yo dd is extremely shy.she wont go to anyone, wont talk to anyon but me and her brother.sometimes she wont even go to daddy.she stays away from other kids and wont talk to them either and shes approached she would shy away or hide behind me. she doesnt like being touched that even daddy cant play with her or hold her she flinches.only me and her brother whos more than a year older than her.ds is going to pre k soon.i dont know what to do with my little girl.

my niece was like that.....she outgrew it by age 15

Both of my girls were like that. They are 13 & 15 now & it's gotten a lot better than before.

Talk to the teachers about it. I would try to find a therapist that understands selective mutism.

Take her to the doctor and get her into some sort of therapy if you don't start finding a solution she will not do well in school.  I really don't understand the interactions she has with your husband that would really concern me I can understand being shy with a stranger but her own father is alarming.

My friends dd was like this and was just diagnosed autistic. She had other issues as well.

That was ds's original speech diagnosis (after confirming that he was not deaf). He is now diagnosed with a classic case of autism.

not at all....top of the class....she just didn't like speaking in public
