Never ending cough???

DD 5 has had a cough for over a month now. We've been to the Doctor's twice for it and its STILL not gone. The second time she prescribed antibiotics and said it was a sinus infection. She finished the meds 4 days ago and the cough still is not gone. She told us to give mucinex along with it and it has also not helped. She said its not in her lungs and that they were clear. Her cough is a very congested cough.

We all have really bad allergies and im starting to feel bad as well and have been for over a week. My allergies are kickin my butt.

We live in Military housing and its not the best but we use a special allergen filter and change it monthly because our house is so dusty and gross. We have issues with mold as well (which were all allergic to). DH changed the filter yesterday and it was covered in mold!!! We've had the air ducts cleaned out professionally but its obviously not helping.. Could that be causing her cough??

Ugh I hate this house!! I wish we could move out.. Now that the Military has privatized housing you have to stay in the house for at least a year and cannot break the "lease." We have 6 months left too :/

I'd start by reporting this problem to the housing office.  You might be able to break your lease with no penalties if you can prove the house is causing a medical condition.

Then I'd go back to the doc and ask to see an allergist or specialist, considering the duration of the cough.  Document it all, bring in mold samples if possible, and see if the doctor can help link the two together.

Asthma... I'd get a second opinion, mold will exasurbate any allergies and or asthma.

without a doubt...mold is THE number one cause of asthma in kids...sounds like you oughta be taking your child to a pediatric pulmonologist so a therapy and preventive course of meds can be started

DS4 had a bad cough for a few months. We did the antibiotics and the albuterol, which didnt help at all. Even mucinex did nothing. Finally we got some Flonase, and within a week, the cough was gone. It was allergies all along.

Coughs sometimes last forever.

Absolutely!! have you mentioned the mold and allergy problems to the dr? I would ask for a referral to a pulmonologist.

Also, as pp said, talk to the housing office. I would think that military housing would be held to the same Landlord/tenant laws as civilians. Mold is not acceptable in rental units. They should be required to fix this or break the lease. Do they have any kind of arbitration system?
