Would you be offended if you planned a great night with CLOSE friends and family for your birthday and your BIL and his wife decided to invite a friend of theirs that you've NEVER met and no one asked you? Your MIL told your husband....the day before.

offended no, but it would irritate the shit out of me. So much so that it would probably ruin my night.

I would call MIL and tell her to call BIL to have him uninvite them or he can uninvite himself as well....

That depends, would I be expected to pay for them?

It depends on why the friend was invited honestly. If they were guests of my in laws I wouldn't mind. Or say they are going through a hard time I would be annoyed but wouldn't say anything. Now if they were invited just because an no one informed me. I would be pissed as hell.

Thankfully my in laws know I have crowd issues and wouldn't do something like this unless I said it was okay.

ETA by guest I mean house guests.

Probably not. The more the merrier! Unless I was expected to pay for this person but then again what does ONE more person matter. If they invited a ton of people then I might be angry but who knows why they invited them. Maybe they had a really rough time and needed a friend. Your BIL didn't want to cancel on plans with you so just invited them along

Nope, the more the merrier.  I can't imagine being offended by someone else attending.
