I had an abortion at 22 weeks *obviously graphic*

Posted by Anonymous   + Show Post

I see so many people saying they would NEVER get a late term abortion and i bet most of you would if you are in certain situations

In my case we noticed that there was something abnormal about the growth of the baby at about 14 weeks. The head and top of the chest were growing normal but the rest of the baby did not. By 18 weeks the top portion had grown like normal but nothing else had. I started see every single specialist I could and many doctors. By 22 weeks it was very apparent that there was nothing that could be done to fix it. The head was measuring at the right size, the heart was still beating, but the rest of the body was not growing. No internal organs had grown and when I was 22 weeks many of the tissues were necrotic.

If I did not get an abortion ASAP I would have become septic. Delivering the baby was not an option as it would have spread out the necrotic tissue and the baby would have not been all in one piece so there wouldnt have been much to deliver.

Is there anyone who really would have not had an abortion in a situation like mine?

Here's the thing, I think in cases like this, even most pro lifers won't disagree with what you did but there are perfectly healthy babies being killed for no reason and that is what the problem is. And no, sorry, mental health reasons don't cut it.

Oh.  How sad :-(

Because the baby didn't have a bottom half and what was there was necrotic (that means dead). It was like someone living with a flesh eating disorder. They're alive, but their flesh and such is basically rotting off.

How would you have become septic?  The baby was still alive.  That doesn't make sense.

Just because a heart beats doesn't mean the person is alive. You can make a heart beat after it's removed from a body. it just needs an electrical current. The baby had parts that were dead. It's very sad. When people begin to die their body shunts blood to the vital areas, the torso and head and extremes die first.

OP, I'm so sorry for your loss.

Don't know a woman that wouldn't do that in your situation. So sorry...it happens sadly.

I've always said that I would never get an abortion unless medically necessary so I would have done the same thing you did. I'm sorry for your loss. Hugs.

You can be living and have necrotic tissue. That necrotic tissue will cause infection that can get into the bloodstream and cause sepsis. If she tried to deliver, the necrotic tissue from her fetus could have broken off and infected her, and the hyperperfused and immunocompromised state of pregnancy would have made this dangerous.

I was in that situation, my DS was diagnosed with fetal hydrops at 14 weeks. I was advised to abort and was told I had until 20 weeks to decide, so the procedure could be done by 23
Weeks...I didn't get the abortion because I felt my DS should have a chance. Even at 28 weeks when my water started leaking, again in was advised NOT to take excessive measures to save him. Again I refused...my DS was born at 29 weeks via c section weighing 5lbs 10oz and 15inches long. The drs at the hospital I was transferred to for his birth, didn't just stand by like the others would have. After 2 weeks on a vent he was taken off, weighing just over 2lbs. My DS will CELEBRATE his 8th birthday this year...

I'm currently 23 weeks, so I can't even imagine how difficult this has been for you, but clearly it had to be done.

when it comes to abortion, every case is different. no judgement here. just big hugs mama.

So sorry you had to go through such a terrible experience. :( Yes, I'd have done the same here.
