Why do people think parents want to leave their kids behind to attend weddings, showers and such. I am sure done do but the suggestion of it is irritating. If I wanted a child free evening I wouldn't go to a shower, wedding or something like that. I'd spend it alone with my dh without all these other people you are expected to interact with around.

Contrary to popular opinion on this site, there is nothing wrong from excluding children at some social events or adult get togethers.  If you don't want to get a sitter or exchange 'playdate' hours with a friend stay home.

Why do so many of you assume YOUR child should be invited to everything ?

I would like to enjoy myself at a wedding or shower, not chase my toddler and miss all the fun.

Because not everyone loves your kids the way you do.

Honestly it is easier when I don't have to bring my kids. They are young, though. I can enjoy myself and visit.

Hanging out at home with dh and chilling is an everyday thing.

I have no idea. I like bringing my children to things. But hey, I can also choose not to attend if my children are not welcome.

Don't go if that's not how you want to spend child free time.
It's not wrong to want your event adults only, it's not wrong to not want to attend because of that.

Idk. But if that's what they want, they shouldn't get offended if people don't come. Especially if they live out of state.
