If I'm really thirsty, not just ran a marathon thirsty, but enough that I can down an entire bottle of water in one gulp I end up getting diarrhea soon afterwards. Is that normal?

Electrolyte imbalance.  You should add a little sugar and salt.

If your in VA you might not be drinking water.

Are you drinking bottled water? Cause some states don't really protect drinking water and you may want to invest in a faucet filter.

Have you been checked for diabetes?  Excessive thirst is a sign.
