If a 9 yr old said this to a classmate at school.What would a appropriate punishment be?

Too little info. Was there a fight before? Is this the first time? Was he being bullied by the other boy? Was he possibly joking around and someone overheard him and made a big deal about it?

Immediate parent contact. I would think he should be suspended and not allowed to return to school till he was cleared by a mental health professional

Normally I would say just ignore it as kids playing but these days ... idk. Definitely need context.

IMO it does not matter if there was a fight between the kids or not. I would want the child suspended in the very least. Threats of violence should not be tolerated.
