What's so wrong with giving kids tea?

I'm working from home and taking care of two of my grandchildren today.

My grandson's drank four cups of tea.

I see women on here say that you should not give small children tea. He broke the cup, but other than that, it's been fine. I have to buy him a new cup now.

But other than that, what's wrong with giving kids tea?

Thank you for your responses. It was caffeine free, so I thought it was fine to give him as much as he wanted. I have learned from this post, though, that giving it with his breakfast may have hindered his iron absorbtion, and lots of teas (especially less expensive brands) have high levels of fluoride, so constant excessive amounts can cause fluorosis of the teeth and skeletal frame. I really appreciate learning this.

But I don't see a problem with kids drinking tea. My girls like it too.

Nothing as long as it's not sweet tea. =)

There's no problem as long as it's caffeine free. We drink real tea at our tea parties :)

4 cups of tea? Holy crap! I have no problem with kids drinking tea, my toddler will have half in a single day but that's it. 4 cups seems excessive and a lot of caffeine.

I don't think anything is wrong with a kid having some tea, but four cups is a lot imo.

I usually make iced white or herbal tea for the kids.  They're at that age where they want to be like Mommy, but probably shouldn't have more than a sip.of the Irish breakfast.

Lots of caffeine. I make dd tea with warm water, lemon, & local honey. She loves it.

We used to give our kids mint tea. No caffeine, not sweetened. For my older 2 it was mostly when they weren't feeling well. My youngest liked it instead of water.

Now that they are older they all like a cup of tea here and there, especially in the cold weather.
