*update*

My dd talked to her, today. She explained that she couldn't stay, and asked if she could get her grade fixed because she felt it was unfair. The teacher told her that a lot of kids had to leave because they or siblings had activities, and she just needs a note from me, excusing her. My dd told her she would bring it tomorrow, and her grade was fixed on her progress report (they get them every week, with all their class grades on them). She's back to straight A's, and I'm glad the teacher was understanding. Crisis averted. Lol

My dd had a band concert last night. She performed first, and the rest of the program was supposed to be an hour long. It incorporated the readings of multiple essays, awards for various things, etc. The teacher docked all the kids' grades who didn't stay for the whole program.

Wtf?

My dd is a national all star cheerleader. She can't miss practice. She is contracted through her studio. She couldn't stay for the whole thing! She has freaking obligations after school.

Can she dock her grade for this??

It's not a school-sponsored cheerleading team? Yes, I believe she can be docked.

Yes. My DS has had concerts that were mandatory for the whole performance.

Yes, and she should be.

No matter what else she does, she's a student first, and subject to the rules of her classes.

Yes, she can. Staying through the concert and supporting her classmates is a part of the grade. Besides, it just rude, imo.

She's not subject to shit after school. After school is HER time. She participated with the band and should have been free to leave afterwards.
