If you had to rely only on the food in your house for three weeks...
How long could you go without shopping beyond the $50 limit?
I would buy eggs, carrots, potatoes, celery, and onions, and I would get a few cans of evaporated milk (because we only cook with it), and a few extra bags of frozen veggies. If I had money left, I would use it for more eggs, a block of cheddar, apples, oranges, popcorn, and bananas, and an extra bag of flour. We would need dog food and cat food, also, which I know some people dont include in their food budgets, but for me its all the same budget.
Everything else- we have. Plenty of meats in the deep freezer, frozen veggies, pantry items, baking items, etc etc. I would just make sure I had a definite plan for what to use and when. (:
if we were really in trouble or needed to make things last longer, I would just get our seeds started sooner under our grow lights.
How about you?
Edit: I just wanted to add we are a family of five- two adults, a 7 yr old, 2 yr old, and 10 month old mostly bf baby. My deep freezer is practically overflowing, which prompted the idea of us going a few weeks without shopping, to run it down a bit. (: The extra money, either $25 or $50, would mean we were eating well and not really missing out on anything at all we normally eat.
