Jury duty is bs seriously. They dont pay you for it and they make you put your whole life on hold for it. How do they expect families that are already struggling to make it if they expect them to miss work to do jury duty. I shouldnt have to go to court for a week for a crime i didnt commit especially if Im not being paid for it. Instead the state should pay people to do that want to. I have kids and my kids needs should come before jury duty. I honestly think its just complete bs that saying having children isnt a good enough excuse. Some people think its my american duty to do jury duty but i disagree. What your opinion?

Maybe you should read the Constitution and decide if this is really the right country for you, dear.

Part of the reason our judicial system sucks.

Its part of being a citizen.  If you were accused of a crime no doubt you'd want a jury of your peers.

If you're caring for children under the age of 12, I think that qualifies you for an exemption.

I see what you are saying.  However it is an American duty.

Usually if you are a SAHM you can opt out.  They also pay (like 12 bucks a day, LOL)!!!

I wrote a letter stating I had a new born and that I hadn't had my 6 weeks of recovery yet, and have never been contacted again.

In Illinois your employer pays you as long as you sign paperwork and turn over what the court pays you.

You do get paid for jury duty. Not a lot, but you do get compensated. It is your civic duty.
