Mom Confessions Mom Confessions

Your chidhood vs. how you parent....

Name some things your parents did that you do differently.

My Parents

1.  We never wore seatbelts.  I remember sleeping on the floor of my mom's beat up Cadillac that we eventually left dead in the Kroger parking lot.   My kids are properly restrained.  My cars are always properly maintained.

2.  My mom smoked and drank while pregnant.  I have never smoked and drank very little.

4.  My mom baked a lot (and used box cake mixes), cooked with Velveeta, Campbell's soup.  I seldom bake at all and don't use those products.

5.  My mom gardened and canned.  I don't but  wish I had the space and time for it.

6.  My parents did not go to college.  My husband and I did go to college.

7.  My mother ALWAYS looked good for her man when he got home from work.  I wear my "mom uniform" from old navy on most days.

8.  My parents never had a mortgage.  We do.

9.  We had one phone in our house growing up.  We have many phones here.

10.  My mom had me when she was 37...crazy old for her day.  People told her to abort or she would probably die because she was so old.   I also became a mom at 37 and while it's not young it's just no big deal.

Oh I could go on for days. Basically I'm raising my kids unlike my mother who made me raise myself or left it up to my great grandmother. She passed away when I was 9 from there I raised myself.

Another big thing is I show my kids affection that was something my mom rarely did or does to day.

I also had most of yours listed to. Except my mother was 15 when she had me and I was 18, graduated from HS, in college, working, and living on my own.

I insist on using a car seat every time.
I am always paranoid about the safwty of my child. Always.
I don't compare him to others.
I fold his clothes.
I clean.
I listen to his pediatrician.
I'm straight edge.
I'm a single mom.
I am nowhere near as skinny as she was my age.
I can't cook.
I don't have street smarts.
I am anti-social.
I am very anal, my mom is super go with the flow.

My mom has usually been there for us financially, but that's pretty much it.

I will just say my mother did everything as badly as possible. I am doing the complete and total opposite of everything she has ever done, in regards to life, marriage, and child rearing. And I am doing it much, much better.
