Question about dogs help! ETA additional question

I have an almost 4 yr old terrier mix and I would like to get a puppy for my son for his birthday. But he wants a large breed dog. How do I go about adding a large breed pup to the mix?
I have no idea how this works we've never had more than 1 dog/pet at a time.

ETA: how are husky/shepherds with small dogs?

Labs are pretty easy going animals that love everybody and tend to get along well with other dogs and even cats.  You can talk to your vet and probably your local shelter as they would probably know.  You can also just google 'large breeds that get along with smaller dogs' and see what comes up.

Adding a puppy will always be "easier". Just introduce the two, and they will take it from there. The puppy usually ends up taking on the traits of your existing dog. I'm sure they will end up being good buddies!

A lab or MAYBE a husky (depends on where you live...if it's cooler than husky can also work).  Oh and a boxer.

I suggest not having 2 dogs of the same sex.

Yeah I've read that that doesn't really work.
