saving $5000 a year

Would you move from a decent sized rented house into a smaller apartment if you could save $5000 a year?

We plan to do it for 2 years. Putting the money saved into the bank and adding tax refunds to use for a down payment on a house.

I wouldn't go from owning to renting to save money, because it would be throwing equity away. But if I was renting, I'd definitely move to a smaller place to save money so I could buy a house.

I'd never live in an apartment again.

Depends if what else that move would sacrifice. For example convenient location.

We didn't go from owning to renting. The op says 'rented house'.

She's going from a big rented house, to a small rented apartment. I don't think she owns a home, yet.

Not much. Just size. The two places are less than a mile apart.

Yes, I would. Sometimes you make sacrifices to get where you want to be & I can tell you from experience, it makes you appreciate it that much more when you reach your goal.
