Does your child hang??

My 5 yr old does this ALL THE TIME. It drives me nuts. I don't know why she does it. She hangs on anything. Her toys, the kitchen table, picnic tables at the park, inside her closet on the clothes rack, etc., her reason is "I just do" this has been going on for months now. She even does it at friends houses and my boyfriend and I have told her to stop and she just keeps doing it. At the park I don't have a problem with it, but its getting out of hand. She knows better, I'm afraid she's going to hurt herself one day. At first I thought it had something to do with having to go potty and holding it in, but she never gets urinary infections or anything. Does your child do this? What would you do?

Doesn't every kid do this? It's kind of the point of monkey bars and jungle gyms, right?

My two year old is a dangler and a jumper.  His speech therapist says that he is a large motor skills child.  He thrives on physical activity.  The way his muscles pull when he dangles and the way they have an impact when he jumps is a physical feeling he craves.

There's something about it that feels good to her, her muscles or her joints crave the sensation hanging gives her.  I would get her something she CAN hang on and try to show her which things are acceptable to hang on and which aren't instead of just trying to stop it.

I don't see the big deal. But if my kids aren't allowed to do something and they disobey me, they get in trouble.
