I bought a child leash for my daughter today. We are going on vacation to a very busy beach town and while she is very well behaved and listens well, she is 17 months old and needs to stay close at all times. I don't love the idea of it, but I do love being able to breathe in public.

(I do plan to hold her hand and walk like we always do. I just want something in my hand that ensures she can't slip away-toddlers are FAST)

Honestly, whatever works. I don't think it's ridiculous or 'abusive'. You're looking out for her safety.

There is no shame in safety back-ups.

Safety first.  Especially in crowded areas.  It will be good to have a bit of extra assurance while you're on vacation.

I hated then till my youngest was born, he was a nightmare in public (he's 16 months) he refused to be carried, refuses to hold your hand, refuses to stay strapped in anywhere lol the leash has saved my life seriously it was that or become a hermit because he was soo not public friendly.

good for you.

i did it when my oldest was 17 months old as well when we went to balitmore for fourth of july.....

after that, she never ran from me or anything.

but be ready for the back lash from strangers while at the beach.

I see nothing wrong with it, I did the same at Disney World when DD was a toddler

I mean as long as you don't tie her to a tree or a bike pole then it's fine.
That's your way of keeping her safe, no judging.
