Tape recorder in SD's room

I think my SD is sneaking her boyfriend in her room at night. I have no real proof, and my DH thinks I am just picking on her. But I know something isn't right. I think she waits til we are asleep and sneaks him in her bedroom window. She is across the house, so we wouldn't hear her if she did. She is 16.

Would it be illegal to hide a voice-activated tape recorder in her room?

If I got proof, then her dad would believe me and we could take care of her and punish her.

I'm going to bed soon because I have to go to work in the morning, so I'll answer any questions tomorrow.

Put a video camera pointing to her window and bedroom entrance. Still will catch him, just without illegally placing it in the room. Not sure about audio tho.

Why not set an alarm to wake up in the middle of the night to check on her?

Thats too much of an invasion of privacy. Besides how uncomfortable would you be if you recorded them having sex? Put some type of nanny cam outside her bedroom window. Or check on her in the night to see if he's there.

This. It's only illegal if you don't have her parents consent. Ask your dh. It will either prove you right or wrong and the issue can be put to rest

Oh my. Why not just "beef up" home security by installing external security cameras?

The have those little alarm things that attach to your window, if it opens, alarm goes off. I wouldn't recommend if it an upper floor or he may fall from the noise, lol.

I would simply use a baby monitor instead.
