I'm lost :/

There's something going on with me mentally that I cannot handle on my own anymore. It's getting in the way of my relationships and causing my life to be difficult. I can't handle things that normally shouldn't even matter.

I'm pretty sure I have Borderline personality disorder. I've been diagnosed with depression before.

It doesn't really matter what the diagnosis is just as long as I get the help that I need. I can't let this interfere with my life anymore.

But I'd rather see someone who specializes in this area. I know how I am when I'm not thinking rationally and I don't want whoever is trying to help me to become my enemy. (If you know about borderline personalities, then you'll understand what I'm trying to say.)

Who am I suppose to look for? A psychologist or a psychiatrist? What does MSW or LCSW mean after the therapists name? I'm so lost with this.

I believe that I have BPD but no doctor wants to sit there and actually test me. I have all the classic "symptoms and signs" of having it. It sucks so when you find out, let me know.

Psychiatrist can give you meds, psychologist can't.

I would suggest seeing a psychologist, and maybe trying to find a few just in case.(ie you don't like them, they suck, etc).

A MSW is a Master of Social Work degree.  LCSW is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (licensed by the state to practice counseling such as marriage or family counseling, usually with either a MSW or a Master's degree in psychology).  A psychologist has a PhD in psychology.  A psychiatrist is an MD who has completed a residency in psychiatry and should be board certified in the specialty.

In descending order of expertise you have Psychiatrist, Psychologist, LCSW, MSW.  Your physician should be able to make a referral to the proper specialist.

What the heck? What's stopping them from testing you? I'll be sure to tell you if I do get tested.
