some years back a couple I knew had a housewarming party when they moved into their apartment. I scratch my head a little bit about it, but I liked them so I went anyway

It is weird. This girl i know through other friends left her husband and moved into an apartment with her kids.  All our friends threw her this huge housewarming thing and even did some sort of "mail a gift card" thing and she ended up with over $1000 in cards.  I thought it was dumb.  I didnt go.

And yeah...i am jealous.  LOL!  Wish someone would have given me $1000 when i got divorced and moved on my own!

So she is moving to a new residence, and wants to have a party.   Not that big of a deal.

I think it's silly but whatever. My friend wanted to have a gift registry for her new house. I think that's ridiculous seeing as she's lived on her own for years and has everything she could possibly need.

A couple at ppl at work did it for their new apartments lol

I don't see it as odd I guess some ppl do it for a new residence?

If it were me I'd call it a "dinner party" vs a "housewarming" party. But it probably sounds like she just wants free stuff from people.
