I was at a restaurant for brunch for my MIL's birthday. My kids are 10 and 13, so it wasn't an issue that this was a bit of an uptight place- no kid's menu, quiet inside, fancy foods. In fact, my 13yo was loving it.

There was a mom two tables over with a little boy who looked 4-5ish. He was restless and bored and yelling out at her loudly, but she just kept ignoring him. I felt bad for both, but I know some kids quiet down when they don't get attention, and as a mom I'm used to it, so it didn't register. When his food got there, he didn't like it (I know because he screamed it), and started to cry. Again, his mom didn't take him anywhere.

I guess people complained, because the manager went over and told them to leave. The mom started to flip out about how he's a child and they're ridiculous, but he was standing firm. She tried to claim they weren't leaving, and when he threatened to call the police, she got up to leave. By then, the dining room started clapping as her and her son walked out, behind the rest of their party. She looked on the verge of tears and her son was crying because he'd understood they were getting kicked out.

My MIL, FIL, SIL and BIL all said "good" when they were kicked out. I was pretty taken aback that they were like that. Idk, what do you think?

Manners. Common decency. Some people still value them.

She should have taken him somewhere to give him "the talk" and get him to quiet down. Her ignoring and allowing the behavior is why they were asked to leave, she has no one to blame but herself.

She did nothing to calm the situation. The manager was within their rights.

I', with your il-laws.... good.

Maybe next time she'll deal with the issue instead of expecting others to just put up with it

Good. She should have controlled him. She was being a lazy parent and she was being rude to the people around her
