I've tried googling and can't really find the answer.

Is Easter Sunday originally a pagan holiday that Christian's took over or is it really a religious holiday?

It's both. Easter is for Christ rising after the crucifixion. Eostre is the pagan holiday about Spring and renewal. Eggs and bunnies are symbols of fertility.

The eggs, rabbits, etc are all pagan rebirth (Spring) symbols adopted by Christianity. It fit so well with the story of the resurrection and by adopting pagan practices, conversion of the "pagan masses" was easier.
