Mom Confessions Mom Confessions

So, I didn't ask either parent if it was okay.

I dropped one of my boys (11) and my 2 step-kiddos (10 and almost 12) off at the swimming pool. I gave them extra money and told them they could walk to Burger King and get themselves dinner. It is close and they don't have to cross any major streets.

I gave them 3.5 hours to swim and eat. I told them I would pick them up at Burger King at 6pm.

I asked my step-daughter if she thought her dad would let them do that and she said no...lol. I'm pretty sure he'd be okay with it though. I guess I'll find out if I broke the rules.

Update:

I got to Burger King early and monitored them from the parking lot for 10 minutes before they noticed me. They were on their best behavior. They had a blast. It sounds like the only scary moment was my step-daughter seeing a naked grandma walking around the locker room...lol.

Update 2:

So, hubby just got home. I told him what I did. He goes, "And...how'd that turn out?" I told him they did great and he got a laugh out of the naked grandma and said, "My poor baby"...lol.

Me too. I wanted to give them a chance to feel a little bit independent and have a good time.

I remember walking to the gas station 4 blocks away and across a busy street almost daily by 10 years old... also walked to school in 5th grade with my little brother that crossed a bigger busy street. Truthfully nowadays I think most parents think their kids are gonna get hurt at every lil turn but if you remind them and teach them to watch themselves, it will be OK.

Risky. Parents go crazy over these types of things.

I think so, but my husband tends to be more protective than I am. I encourage him to give them a little more leeway.
