how do you wash your child's lunch box?

I wipe down every night and throw in the washing machine if necessary, but at least once a week. My mom says I should just wash by hand, because they do tend to break down quicker when washed in the machine...anyone have a better way?

I throw it in the dishwasher once a week and wipe clean with a cloth everyday.

I was my hand. They don't get that dirty, and I'm afraid the velcro might start to wear if I use the washing machine.

I ordered some with snaps for next year.

Is it made of cloth material? I use the washing machine, but it doesn't do a great job.

I don't my kids take hot lunch as school and only snacks go in their lunch box so it never gets gross.  In the rare occasion I wash by hand no other option I don't own a dishwasher.
