I was surprised by the responses to a recent name post where a bunch of people reacted with disgust to the idea of caling a child by her middle name?

Is this a terrible practice?

Is it regarded with the same disdain as the practice of namine your child SHOWMETHEMONEY or something equally ridiculous?

No.  My dad goes by his middle name, as does my youngest brother and my niece.  But they are normal names.

We call my son by his middle name. And all the other names we have picked out for future kids involve calling them by middle names.

I see nothing wrong with it at all.

My husband is known by everyone as John, but that is his middle name. I see no problem with it.

No. I call my kids by their middle names when they're in trouble.

My son goes by his middle name. He responded to it as a baby and we just went with it. He is welcome to go by his first name if he chooses too.

No. I choose not to because I love their first names but I don't see the big deal.

I don't care but I think it's weird and will cause problems in school, at work, with bills and legal documents later on.  I remember a post on here that was complaining that at school they refused to call their child anything other than their legal first name, even though this child never went by that name.

I think it's just weird.  Why not just use it as a first name?
