This is a minor debate at my school right now. A mom was in the school library with her daughter who is 5. She was watching a movie quietly for awhile, but then started unplugging the headphones and refusing to plug them back in, whining and talking loudly. The mom got it under control but she continued to talk loudly, whine and get up to run around for the next 20 minutes or so. The mom said she got a dirty look every time, until security finally came and told her she had to leave.

Some students (mostly moms) have said she pays tuition too and should be allowed to have her child in the library. The rest all said of the kid isn't totally silent, they shouldn't be there at all, ever. WDYT?

If her child was disruptive, she should have been asked to leave

Tuition doesnt mean you dont have to follow the rules.

it's a LIBRARY

follow the rules, be courteous to others or leave.

If her kid is a disruption, anywhere, they should leave.

Well I think it's a good lesson. You have to be quiet or leave.

We have a kid's section at our oublic library...there's more leeway....but my kids know not to be loud as we pass through the main portion of the library.

You have to teach them.

it's a library, if the kiddo can't be quiet, they need to leave

Paying tuition does not mean that you get to bring your child into the library being disruptive. Tuition is irrelevant.

Anyone who is being disruptive in a quiet area would be asked to leave, student, child of student, homeless old guy, disgruntled member of the faculty. Anyone.

Sounds like a case of "I want special entitlements because me" to me.

How does a 5 year old not know how to behave in a library? Or be quiet when asked? My 3 year old knows better then that. He knows the library is quiet time. Even in the kids area he is quiet.

Yes, this. I would have left before I had to be asked if my child was behaving like that.
