Do you thinks it's ghetto to make my sons 5th birthday cake instead of buying it?? Because my mil said I wad ghetto for making it. And she said were ghetto because we can't afford to buy my sons bike for his bday that he wants but said we will get him small presents and buy his bike later when we can. Am I ghetto for this what are your thoughts??

No not at all! What would be ghetto is if you went around and put scraps of cakes together to make a "new" one lol (saw that on "extreme cheapskates")

Your mil sounds rude. If she has a problem with it let her buy it.

Tell her to buy it. My mom goes nuts when I want to spend money on that kind of stuff!

I make all my kids' cakes. It's not ghetto.

Nope. I prefer to make my kids cakes anyways.

The most popular cake I ever served was one I made myself from a mix. Plus, it was on sale, I bought the mix and frosting for $2 total. The kids could not stop eating it.

the fancy cakes I ordered in the past usually remained untouched.

My mom made every single birthday cake I ever had. Yum!!!! Plus then you can lick the bowl!!! My son's godparents made his first bday cake. Not sure what we will do for cake #2.

As far as the bike goes, it's more "ghetto" to go into debt buying stuff you can't afford than to wait and pay for it.
