I just applied for government assistance

I was laid off in January. The company went bankrupt. Our savings ran out last week. I didn't know what else to do. I've applied for hundreds of jobs and have not gotten
hired yet. I only qualified for $95 a week in unemployment.

According to what I've seen on here you should never get it no matter what.

It took my Husband 5 months of hard searching before he got his job. Tomorrow is his first day. We have been on food stamps for 4 months. We owe money everywhere. It may take a couple more months before we are back on our feet. But we will do our best. We don't want to use assistance forever! I'm glad these programs exsist for our sakes. I have seen people use and abuse the system. My mother did. Which really set me up for a pretty low standard of living. I don't want to live the way she did. I hope that by the time my life is done that I've paid more in taxes than I've spent in assistance and funds. I want to be one who ultimately gives, not takes.

I hope things get better for you soon. In the meantime, do what you have to to feed your family. No judgment here.

Have you been to a temporary staffing service? I was laid off last year and had a job 4 days later going through an agency. I was hired by the company 3 months later.

I actually need to do the same. The company I worked for is slowly closing down and I was the first group to get laid off. I need a little help until I'll find something. :( Good luck.
