My Child Would NEVER Do That!! Are You Crazy?

I was thinking about a trip I took when I was in 6th grade.

We left Friday morning and got back Sunday afternoon. It was called Outdoor Education.

We made dream catchers, learned about bees, went a scavenger hunt, it was on an abandoned military base, with four barracks- boys stayed in two, girls stayed in two... all sorts of fun things, all the 6th graders in the town. It was a great time, and I still reminisce about it from time to time.

Also, it didn't cost my parents anything. It was free.

So, I am moving back to that town, wondering if they still do it, because I would love for my LOs to have that experience, when they are that age. Still a ways off, though, my oldest is almost 8.

So, my question is- would you let your kids go? Or is that a field trip you would have to say no to?

Sure....Why not.  None of my kids are allergic to bees.  =)

Sure, if I was familiar with the organization and the adults that are chaperoning.

Right?

It was a blast.

They split us up into groups of four about a week before and let us name our groups.

I came up with 'Little Miss Perfects' and the other girls loved it, so that is what we were. Then, we made a sign for our door, with our group name on it, and it was hung outside our dorm for the weekend. :)

I would have loved for my kids to do that but they stopped it.
I can still remember going to Camp Kern when I was in 6th but it wasn't free.

Yep.

I did something similar in 5th grade.

It was the district that paid for it, and all the 6th grade teachers in the school went, along with some Natives who knew the area really well and were 'teachers' for the things we did.

I let my daughter go on a week long trip to New York with her 8th grade class, so I would have let her go on a trip like this. It sounds fun.
