Mom Confessions Mom Confessions

I was appalled at a school performance, last night

It was supposed to be 'best dressed' for the students. There were several students whose parents obviously didn't care. One girl had on a mumu looking thing, over ratty jeans, with dirty tennis shoes. Another wore a completely mismatched, ill fitting skirt and shirt. Wtf? Why don't parents realize their child's appearance is a reflection of their parenting? If they can't afford nice clothing, we have a VERY giving community, with people often offering free kids clothing on our yardsale sites, and DI (Deseret Industries) where you can get free kids clothes if you're in need. WHY send your kid to a nice school function looking like a ragamuffin, knowing they will get teased?

Too much wrong in this post for me to want to get involved.

That just seems like the school is setting up the kids who have less to be teased and harassed. A "best dressed" event? And I'm assuming it's for younger kids since you are looking at the parents for dressing them poorly. Um...

I don't think best dressed is appropriate for a school to have and sends a terrible message to the kids, regardless of if they are in rags or designer clothing.

So, instead of just enjoying the performance, you sat around judging others (and children in particular)?  This says a lot about you (and not in a good way).

Maybe the parents let their kids dress themselves? Who cares, really?

Why do you need to judge kids? Just watch the performance.

So. You were to busy judging everybody else and their chosen attire to enjoy what I am guessing was an end of the school year performance. You should have just stayed home.

Maybe they let their kids pick out their own clothes. Maybe they dont want to ask for help. It doesn't really matter. Maybe I'm the minority here, but I dont judge parents based on how their kids are dressed. I always just assume its what the kid picked out.

Why even have a best dressed? That's stupid
