Teaching a child to read?

My oldest is 5 and had expressed interest in learning to read,but i have no idea how to go about teaching her.

Any ideas?

Get your kid the book teach your child to read in 100 easy lessons.
Great way to learn to read.
You can probably get it at the library

read read read to them.

I also used All About Reading.

start with letter sounds. Make sure first she can recognize and write each letter independently. Then teach her the sounds of each letter. Once she knows all that, put simple words together. My sons started with the words "I" and "am" and just did those two words for a week. The added "mad" "pad" "tad" "lad" etc, just sticking with the same 3 letter word only changing the first letter/sound. And go from there. There are many online games that will also help.
