Would it be totally selfish to not want my kids at my birthday dinner?

My birthday is this Friday and I'm thinking of asking my sister or parents to keep my kids (8 and 3) overnight so just me and my husband can go out to a nice dinner and movie or something.

We almost never do anything and usually I take the kids if we go out to eat. It wouldn't be a problem except our 3 yr old has turned into a mini hellion (lol) and it's very hard to take him anywhere, as he does not want to sit down, then I make him sit in a high chair so he can't run around and wreak havoc, but he will scream the entire time and refuse to eat if we do that and it isn't fun for anyone.

I want to go to a decent steakhouse and I don't want to be embarrassed by my child and not be able to enjoy myself because I'm so worried he's acting bad.

Would you go without the kids?

I'd go to dinner without the kids in a heartbeat.  However, I'd also celebrate with them later.

Hell yeah. Go for it. Its your birthday, do what you want.

Heck one year I kicked DH and DS out for the night and had friends over.

It shouldn't hurt them to stay with a sitter.  But no, I wouldn't go out for my birthday without my kids.

Do cupcakes or something with your kids and then go out to eat with DH. We have a kid free birthday party at our home.

Yes! I have 3 boys and at age 3 they seem to turn horrible! I would defiantly go without them, moms need some time away! Happy Birthday!!

It's your birthday. Do what you want. If my son acted cray like that, I would do the same.

I would leave the 3 year old with a sitter and take the ones who behave.
