Still wearing a slip, granny? - EDIT

Reading about this and comments about this elsewhere.

I'm 43.  When I was a girl, it was a kicking and screaming fight to force me into a slip.  It was hot, scratchy, and exceedingly uncomfortable as an extra layer.  This has never changed.  Once I got about 12 and was given free reign over my clothing choices, they went in the trash.  Have never worn another ever again.  They are still hot, scratchy, and an unnecessary layer.  I'm a pure cotton gal.  I don't care if it were antique silk.  Not cotton = horribly uncomfortable.  Was utterly surprised at an article with comments of women much younger than me who insisted upon wearing slips "just because", or because their granny said they'd be a tramp without one - literally.  My mom won't go without one, because GASP, if the light hits you just the right way, you may be able to see the outline of her legs.  So what's the big deal?  People will know you have legs?  Just not getting it.  When I think of a slip, I see the granny from Beverly Hillbillies.  Cannot imagine a modern woman insisting upon such an antiquated item.

Edit:  For all of you so concerned about people seeing through your cheap clothing, start getting decent quality.

I haven't worn a slip since my grandmother's funeral when I was eleven.

Depends on the dress.

If I'm wearing a "flowy" skirt that could get blown up in the wind, I will wear a somewhat fitted slip underneath just in case. My just in case has come in handy a couple times, at least I wasn't left standing there showing off my panties when my skirt blew up, no sneak peaks from me!

Some women have a neurotic worry that someone will see through their skirt/dress.  I've yet to see a skirt/dress as thin as drapery sheers, so it's not a true concern, just a stuck-in-the-50s compulsion.

I wear one when the dress has a tendency to be staticy. Because it helps.
