Dd passed kindergarten, but her teacher says she's not mature enough to go on to first. She's going to summer school so I told the teacher I think she'll be fine moving on. Well, I get a letter in the mail saying its the school's profession opinion for her to repeat kindergarten. I would have no problem with her repeating if she REALLY needed it but she doesn't. So Im pissed the school made that decision for me. Am I wrong? What should I do?

What does she not mature enough even mean? How mature are five year olds anyway?

So she had no issues during K to make you think she's not ready and they just sprung it on you?

Social maturity is important. Schools don't make that decision lightly.

The didnt make the choice, they recommended it. You have the ultimate say, but they know better than you do when it comes to this.

Her birthday is March 21, 2008. She's 6. She's not "mature enough " because she sometimes tunes out and goofs off. But this is her first year of school. She didnt go to pre-k

A parent never thinks the worst of their kids....if the professionals think she needs to repeat kindergarten then she should repeat kindergarten

You can fight it.  But really IF they are right, she would wind up falling behind and having to repeat FIRST grade.

Which is more damaging to a child. Kindergarten repeating isn't as bad .
