So my dd is currently away on summer break with her dad and step mom. Today I got a wild hair up my butt to break down get bunk beds, separate them into two twin beds rearrange her room now that she is going to middle school... Anyway long story short I had to move her fish tank around so I empty the water...put the fish in a baggie.. afterwards I filled the tank back up and like a DUMBASS let the fish free to swim... Just checked and every last one are DEAD.. I CRIED she is going to be so sad

Aww, momma. I did that as a child (thinking I was being such a good fish owner by cleaning out their tank and giving them nice clean water) and I cried so hard. I think doppelganger fish is a great idea. Kids need to be acquainted with pet death at some point, but this doesn't feel like the right time.

P.S. Read up on proper tank-cleaning techniques before allowing your kids to take on that task!

I know nothing about fish, (obviously).... Why would putting fish in water kill them?

Awwwww....

You didn't mean to hurt the fish, don't beat yourself up too much.

Isn't that what you are supposed to do when cleaning the tank?

Are they saltwater fish? I've never had an issue putting my fish back into fresh water after I clean the tank.
