So I need help here to make sure I'm not about to over react.

My m.I.l. is in very poor health. She has bronchitis and has to do breathing treatments, yet STILL smokes like a chimney.

2 years ago she woke up not feeling well, drove HERSELF to the hospital, collapsed at their doorway and it turned out she had a burst colon and pneumonia and nearly died.

Then, a year ago she broke her foot. She lives alone an hour away from us. We invited her to live with us, but she likes her independence. I forgot to mention, she lives in a dangerous neighborhood.

D.h. has been calling her all day and she is not answering. He calls her every day. We don't know the neighbors #. Would it be over reacting at this point to call the cops and ask them to check on her?

UPDATE! I am getting some serious run around here! First I called the Houston Police department. They told me to call dispatch and gave me that #. So I call that #, and they tell me that since I am calling from Montgomery County, I need to call the Montgomery county police and have them send Houston something called a teletype.

So I call Montgomery County dispatch and tell them what H.p.d. said. They say H.p.d. doesn't need anythingtheom them and tell me to call H.p.d. back. I call H.p.d. and tell them what my local p.d. said, and they still insist they need this teletype. They say they will go ahead and do the check, but tell me to call my local p.d. back about the teletype. So I do, but they again insist H.p.d. does not need a teletype and that they do not even do them. Grr!!

2nd update! AAn officer called me. He says he is at her house. He knocked and there was no answer, but her car is there.

Trying to convince d.h. to go check on her. He has a key.

UPDATE #3 I was trying to wait till d.h. went to sleep last night and was just going to go, myself, but I could not get around his truck or move his truck. I.d.k. how to drive a stick shift. Then I was thinking I'd go when he left for work, but I don't have her house key. I could knock, but the cop already tried that last night.

D.h. is convinced she must have just gone off with her friend, Lorraine to the Louisiana casinos. She does that sometimes. He says if he can't get ahold of her today, he will go over there after work. I'm still really

4rth UPDATE! GRR! I just typed a whole long update and pressed, "update post" then my 2 y.o. took the phone from me and somehow made it all go away. So I'll be more brief this time cuz I'm not typing all that again.

We still have not been able to reach her. D.h. is going to go to her house right after he gets home and switches from his work truck to his own truck. I am mad at myself for not just pestering him all night if necessary until he finally agreed to go. It would have been a huge fight, and he still might not have done it, but she is worth it.

6:30 p.m. Wed. : D.h. must be right. She must be off at the casino in Louisiana. We are at her house and she is not here. We really need to get Lorinne's #, in case this happens again. LOrrinne is the friend she goes gambling with

If she is in poor health I see no reason why a welfare check couldn't be made. Just call the local police or sheriffs dept.

Haha! No, I just mean everyone in my family tends to be over protective, and I've inherited the tendency to over protect my loved ones.

Oh, also, she lives all the way in Houston. An hour from here and H- town traffic is the worst!

Yes call and have them do a well check. It's not over reacting it's making sure she's okay.

Where are you? I am north of Houston. Yes traffic sucks, especially now that it is rush hour.

Call the non emergency line and ask for a welfare check. Doesn't sound like a bad idea to me. Hope all is well.
