I'm done! I'm Done! I'm DONE!!!! (UPDATE) LIGHTS ON!
It's DONE! I'm very happy with how it turned out. I have it hanging to dry now, we will install it tonight. I can't wait to see it all lit up!
If you want to do something like this, I recommend choosing a smaller paper lantern, this was tedious to say the least and it took me forever to complete it.
Start with a paper lantern. I chose this one from Ikea
In retrospect, a colored one might have been a better choice.
Next I bought a butterfly stamper from the craft store and gathered up all my scrap card stock. I also used some old birthday cards, that had pretty colors and really anything I could find that had a little weight to it.
Don't ask how many butterflies I stamped out. I have no clue. A couple of nights ago my husband helped out and did about 100 or so. When looking for paper, I tired to find as much shiny and reflective stuff as possible. I want the lamp to look great in the light and in the dark. Once it's lit you mostly just see silhouettes.
Using Modge Podge, I gently bent each butterfly and painted them on. I painted them from the middle, and sometimes just from one wing to give the effect of movement.
I imagine this would be a really cute idea with more than just butterflies! Anyway, I'm so happy to be done! I'll post a picture tonight of it all lit up.
Okay it's up and lit!
She said instead of waiting for bedtime, she would like to put her PJ's on now. lol
The kids just got their own rooms this past weekend, so here's the before and after shots.
I'm happy to be done and really happy that they love it!
