I'm ashamed of my friend (foodstamp related).

I have a guy friend who I am practically going out with. Anyway, he worked for the post office for 25 years and was let go last September. The union has been dragging their heels ever since in having a meeting to see if he gets his job back.

He got unemployment for 6 months which recently ran out. He recently starting getting foodstamps of $350 a month!! Now, he is an able-bodied 53 year-old guy with full custody of his 16 year-old daughter. He does not pursue his ex-wife for child support. I think with foodstamps the government doesn't go after the other parent, just with welfare money.

Now, here are the most absurd parts of this. He has a decent savings and claimed he told them!!! Why should he get foodstamps if he has a good savings? Plus, he gambles at the casino and buys storage lockers at auctions frequently and resells contents from them making no profits, but losing money. And he's a real wasteful food shopper.

This is one of the reasons our government is broke!! He doesn't need foodstamps!! I'm so ashamed of him!! I told him he will probably owe it all back when they see how much money he has. I don't think they looked much into it yet. They should have!! He and his daughter aren't starving, no where near it. I almost want to stop being friends with him because of this!! (Sorry. I didn't mean for this to be so long!!)

Okay, don't be his friend, but if what you claim is true and he still got it then blame the government, not him, 53 isn't an easy age to be out job hunting.

I must be so strange.. because none of that stuff would matter to me.

And being 53 and out of work has to be hard.

No. I'm WAY over 16, LOL. I don't know how to classify our relationship. I don't know if I would consider us going out. I didn't know how to phrase it.

That sounds like a shitty situation, I'd hate to be laid off 53 and looking for work
