I am my nephew's mother

Legally, anyway (and biologically).

It's a little annoying because they need his passport so I have to go find a notary to get paperwork taken care of. He's 18 months old now, hopefully we'll do the adoption eventually! I'm going to tell him that if I'm on his BC by tax time next year, I'm claiming him this time! lol

My sister needs to adopt him FROM me. I am his birth mother, but he's her child.

Why do you have to do that if you are biologically his mom?

Why hasn't the adoption already been done?

Because he's my sister's child. My BIL and I are on the BC currently, and she needs to do a step-parent adoption so she can be on it.

Mostly just because its inconveneint, expensive, and hasn't made a difference in anyone's life. We've all had a busy year and just haven't gotten around to it.

Is your BIL the biological father?
