She doesn't want me in the delivery room? :(

I have four daughters. We're generally all pretty close, but my youngest Lena and I butt heads a bit sometimes. She's 35 weeks pregnant with her husband, and I couldn't be more excited.

She was over for dinner last night and when I mentioned I had MY hospital bag packed, she looked uncomfortable. I asked her what was wrong and she basically said I stress her out, she doesn't want me in the delivery room and she'd be calling me once the baby was born- either to come during regular visiting hours or to just come to her house since they don't expect her hospital stay to be long.

I have never been so hurt. I have been there, in the room, for all my other grand babies. I cried when they left, and my husband said I should talk to her honestly, but I don't want to stress her or cause a fight so close to her due date. Does anyone have any advice?

Leave her alone. Her baby, her body. If she doesn't want you there suck it up and move on.

She has made her decision. Nothing much you can do.

well this is a sign that you need to find out why your relationship is really a strain and work on it.

Here is my advice.

You do not want to stress your daughter out or cause a fight? Respect her wishes and STAY OUT OF THE DELIVERY ROOM!!

There, done. So what's the problem again?

Let it be. Do you really prefer if she let's you there due to a guilt trip?

Some women are very private when it comes to birth. They may only want their husbands and whatever medical personnel necessary, and that is it. Leave her alone. She has made her decision, so there's no use whining about it. If you push the topic with her, you'll only succeed in making her dig in her heels further.
