My DD starts K in the fall. I was pretty surprised in how much tuition was but then on top of that another $200 for supplies!

This is for a public kindergarten

It was never this much for my other kids

Eta I live in CO. K is not required here

Not the same district as me but in colorado

Tuition
Some schools offer free full-day kindergarten, but other programs must charge tuition. The tuition for the 2012-13 school year is $300 per month. Check with the school's principal for fee information.

Public kindergarten is free where we live. So is pre-k, but you generally have to qualify income wise to be admitted first.

It's the area you live in.
K was 100% free here and supplies were around $20.

Was full day not free and that's why you're paying?
My sister had to pay for full day, but half day was free.

Huh? Public school doesn't have tuition unless you don't live in the district.

I don't understand public schools charging tuition.  They would not get away with it here on Long Island because our taxes are so high.  K is not mandated, but you don't pay more than what you are already paying in taxes for it.  When my dd was in the younger grades, her school supply list was always up there in price.  As she got older, I did not spend as much, probably because she went from private to public school.  I found the private school wanted a lot of things.
