The year is 2014. Like many other women I have kept my maiden name. Everyone knows this. However we get many Christmas cards, invitations, etc... all addressed to Mr and Mrs X when is is Ms.Y and Mr.X

It bugs me when in laws do it because we tried correcting them politely in the beginning. However after a decade they still do not get it.

Is it really that much of a complicated concept?

Maybe your friends just have better manners than you and know how to address things correctly.

Eh. It's still very much the norm to take the husband's name. I don't think it would bother me too much. Then again I took my husband's name so...

So you aren't proud of your "new" last name? And you have a different last name as your kids. Why not hyphenate?

I kept my name.
I just say it firmly to people and correct it when written down. Thankfully those people correct themselves and many just never changed as I always said I wouldn't change my name.

It's just easier to address them that way.

From an etiquette standpoint, Mr and Mrs X is correct for a married couple, regardless of her legal name. If the people addressing the cards are mostly older, they are only doing what they learned was proper.

I might keep mine, as well.  I don't feel like remembering a new ss number..

Maybe they are just horrendously lazy and don't feel like writing two names.

___Thanks to the many people who told me you don't have to change your SS number.  I was misinformed, once again.  I still think that the SS office is the 8th ring of hell, and don't know if I want to deal with it.. And the DMV.  Those places suck____

I kept my maiden name and don't give a fuck how our Christmas cards or anything else is addressed to us.

It isn't correct if that isn't her name...
