Grocery Clerk commenting on your purchases ETA

Is it just me, or does anyone else find a grocery Clerk commenting on your purchases ETA rude/annoying?

We have talked about other shoppers commenting on our shopping carts. So I was wondering what people thought about the employees doing the same thing?

I think you are projecting your own insecurities of your choice to eat corn dogs onto the cashier and turning your guilt into automatic defensiveness.

I've never had anyone be rude about what I was buying.  The last time a cashier commented, she asked me if I liked the Skinny Cow candy I was buying just to see how they were.  She was genuinely interested and not condescending about it.

She was probably just making small talk, and noticed the corn dogs.
